Your College Preparation: Applications, Admissions, Education
The EVOLUTION of the COLLEGE ADMISSIONS PROCESS
In the olden days (when your parents went off to get an education), the college applications and admissions process consisted of:
- Getting decent grades
- Taking the SAT tests (without studying),
- Filling out a one or two page application
- Sending transcripts
- Showing up with your checkbook.
-
Oh, yes, and maybe finding a place to live before your first day on campus. No more!
Some things have stayed the same, it is still grades, and test scores but now, number three on that list is the application essays, and number four is "class ranking"
The process of college applications and admissions these days requires planning, strategy, has grown more difficult and competitive, and is over-all, a stress-creating activity. The goal of our company is to reduce or eliminate that stress and to help our clients get into the schools of their choice.

PLANNING AHEAD.
By the beginning of your junior year, if you are thinking college admissions, and four-year universities, you need to be strategizing your next two years in high school. This guide will show you what you need to know, where to find information, and how to navigate the process.
With these pages you can get to know the schools that interest you, and learn what you need to do to get there. You are starting on an adventure that will occupy a lot of your time from the beginning of your junior year until the late spring of your senior year. The sooner you become familiar with this process, its requirements and its timetable, the easier it will be for you.
ORGANIZATIONAL TOOLS YOU NEED TO GET STARTED
- Day Planner
- Eighteen month calendar (and print out our junior and senior year roadmaps).
- A notebook, to be called a "Brag Book."
- An idea for those of you who will never be organized: Place a plastic bin someplace handy, by your desk, by the front door, whatever. Drop the college stuff into the bin. That way, it is all in one place when you need it.
Learn more about the Brag Book on other pages on this site.
It will be incredibly handy when you are filling out college applications and writing
those applications essays.
Note: The financial picture for parents of college-bound students changes every day.
january 3, 2012
All subsidized student loan are now handled by the government.
Some banks are still giving loans, so check with your bank, and some of the big ones. The difference will be that the banks will be giving unsubsidized loans, meaning the bank have no federal protection if the borrower defaults. In the end, this will mean that the banks will exit the student loan business.
Article in"The Atlantic Monthly" October 26, 2011. "Obama's Student Loan Program will save the average Student less than $10.00 per month."
I would love to hear from you about your experiences with these pages, or with your college admissions process.
Happy Planning!
